ABOUT ME

Hey readers! I’m Marlee Topkis a senior at Penn State majoring in Hospitality Management. I believe that in order to succeed in the Hospitality Industry, one must possess an aptitude for originality, the capability to work effectively with clients and associates, and determination. I am detail oriented, well organized, and have strong analytical skills however it was my love of interacting with others and passion for travel that motivated me to pursue a career in Hotel Management.

I have had multiple hands on experiences within the hotel industry at very diverse properties. In addition, I have held internships in numerous hotel departments including Sales, Human Resources, Food and Beverage, and Special Events.

Work Experience

SALES INTERNSHIP: SHERATON TIMES SQUARE, NEW YORK

June 2016- August 2016

Worked closely with sales managers to assist them with daily work. Proficient using ISAC. Able to create contracts, addendums, and handovers. Shadowed managers on property tours. Interacted with clients to help sell event space. Assisted with daily sales operations including: invoicing, receiving, and customer service.

HUMAN RESOURCES EXTERNSHIP: ST. REGIS, NEW YORK

December 2015-January 2016

Assisted in processing new hire forms, benefits, and payroll paperwork. Completed an I9 and Employee File Audit. Acquired knowledge about Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining Agreements. Learned about Recruiting and Associate Relations. Gained exposure to Learning and Development programs

SPECIAL EVENTS/ F&B INTERNSHIP: NOMAD HOTEL, NEW YORK

June 2015-August 2016

Organized and prepared day of event documents. Created floor plans using Social Table. Tracked and recorded inventory resulting in a more efficient operation. Executed and maintained food and beverage station design during events. Interacted with guests daily and assisted in resolving issues. Recognized for exceptional work and enthusiasm.

WAITRESS: LIFETIME FITNESS CAFÉ, WHITE PLAINS NY

June 2014-August 2014

Worked at the cafe of a 209,000 square foot fitness facility. Took customers orders, performed food preparation, made food recommendations upon request. Cleaned all work areas, equipment, and seating areas.
